Welcoming the Stranger: Our Role as Jews in the Global Refugee Crisis

December 18, 2017 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

As Jews, we are obligated to perform the mitzvah of Hachnasat Orchim- welcoming the stranger. We brought that roommate from the West Coast home for Thanksgiving during college; we continue to open our Shabbat tables to friends and co-workers who are new in town. But what is our role in welcoming strangers on an international scale? What does Judaism have to say about our responsibility to welcome refugees to our country? And even if we do know what we, as Jews, are supposed to do, what makes it hard to live up to our ideals? Join Tribe for a conversation on the Global Refugee Crisis and what we can do to cultivate understanding and affect change in our country, our communities, and ourselves. Tribe will also be joined by Rabbi Rachel Grant Meyer, Director of Education at HIAS, the world’s oldest, and only Jewish, refugee resettlement organization.
